Mr. Smith had the great honor to illustrate a book written by Gaylon Hayden. Mrs. Hayden is a cancer survivor. As she was ongoing treatment, she took inspiration from children who were also battling cancer. After she got better, she wanted to do something for the children who inspired her. She wrote a book about her experience, told from a child's perspective. All proceeds from the book went to children cancer research. Through this book experience, Mrs. Hayden created a none-profit organization called Book for Hope, Inc. Through this organization, she continues her goal of helping children and their families as they fight this disease (by funding meals, lodging, travel expenses and more). Parents, if you would like to learn more, send Mr. Smith email. Click on the link above to hear Mr. Smith read the book. Click on the PDF files to the right and print out a coloring page (a page from the book). These coloring pages will also be in the "Flash Files" filling cabinet. Look in the last filling cabinet on the right - bottom drawer. Click here to learn how to draw a
Self-Portrait Catching Snowflakes. The first drawing, you can draw with Mr. Smith in the video is done with crayons on white paper. The drawing on the right, is drawn with oil pastels on light blue paper. How would you draw, paint or sculpt a snowman?
After reading the book, "If Picasso Painted a Snowman" and seeing all of the illustrations of how other famous artists might have painted a snowman, got me thinking... How would you draw or paint a picture of a snowman? If a snowman took a selfie, what would the photo look like? If you were to sculpt/build a snowman but did not have snow, what would it look like? What materials would you use to sculpt/build your snowman? |
